This brings up another point for me which is that if you have a diferent set of moves for a blade attack than you have for defending against an empty hand attack you are putting yourself in a position where you have to establish which it is and which to use and at 2 feet its impossible if the knife is concealed up to the last second. On youtube the search ‘knife or fist take the test’ brings up a video by defiance combat showing this nicely.

Hey Steve, Guro Inosanto is bad ass with Kali & JKD look how fast he is. Not even enough time for them to draw their gun, have you heard about Wing Chun & Kali it combines WC & Kali together, their school is out of the Greater Houston area. That is what I want to do combine WC & Kali together for the ultimate combat art.

I’ve had a similar idea for a long time and learned some escrima and some kadena de mano but the more I find out about the Wing Chun Baat Jaam Do form the more I think we have a very high level knife in our own system. But I still owuld like to learn more Escrima or Kali and more Standing Joint Locking – I did some Small Circle Jujitsu and would like to learn more of that.

This is one of the reason I think the Wing Chun blast defense by offence is so smart. People will often not deploy the knife right away – it comes out as the scenario escalates. If they are defending their head and/or knocked out, they can’t draw the weapon.
Otherwise its basically impossible to control – if someone else brings a knife or gun to your fist fight, you are in trouble and your only chance is timing and luck and how competent they are with their weapon. Run if you can, fight if you must. But it would be bad. Weapons beat empty hand the way paper covers stone.
