While Once Upon a Time in Shanghai (2014), in my opinion, is just OK as an overall movie, and several of the other fights are also not very note-worthy, this fight between Andy On and Phillip Ng (a student of Wong Shun Leung and also 6th generation Choy Li Fut) is a lot of fun and, in places, pretty realistic.

Choreographed by the great Woo-ping Yuen (aka Yuen Woo Ping, choreographer of some of the greatest martial arts movies ever, including Fist of Legend , Iron Monkey ,  and The Matrix ), the fight is a great blend of styles and goes all over the place, in and out of most of the fighting ranges.  A real show stopper!

Note: The one in the suit (Phillip Ng) is a gangster with a truck full of Opium.  He tells the other guy (Andy On) that if he can survive a fight until the cigar burns out, he can keep the truck’s contents.

I think Sifu Ng stole the movie as a charismatic villain.  Here he is doing Chi Sau with students at his f amily’s school in Chicago .  I wonder why he hasn’t done any major US movies?  He definitely has all the elements to make a US action star.

Another side note: the version I saw was different than this one. It was longer and a little better.
