I like the even-handedness of this Youtube creator (his name is Elon and his site is called Inside Fighting ). Like a number of newer and increasingly popular content-creators, he is open-minded and trying to get to the truth through visiting fighters and checking out their methods and strategies. He is I believe a Black Belt in BJJ and has done a lot of Kyokushin Karate. I am increasingly interested in seeing how these system comparisons work. I personally believe you never really know how any training in any person is going to play out in a “real fight” scenario. Every “real fight” is different. Some can be de-escalated. Some only turn into shoving matches. Sometimes the weapons come out and you are in a gun or knife fight. That’s the thing about real people and their real emotions. Shit can get crazy!
So it is important to do our best to make sure we are well-rounded, as ready physically and psychologically as we can be in a real world of jobs and families and injuries and (hopefully) longevity.
I’m also very sensitive (in light of the above) to questions about efficacy. You train for decades and then someone suggests your art is useless. Whle you know its not useless, how useful is it? How can you tell? Is it just adding sparring? I think sparring is also limited but I think it is also a tool we should consider!
